1. What is phonics and why is it important?

Phonics is like a secret code for reading! It helps your little one understand how letters and sounds go together. When they know phonics, they can read words all on their own. It’s super important for their reading journey.

To learn more, make sure you watch the video in the parent section.

2. How can I make phonics fun for my child?

It’s important to keep things fun and play based with Phonics.

Go through the sections on the app in order, spending about 5-10 minutes in the app each day.

The most important part is weaving what they learn from the app into your everyday life: walks, games, street signs, etc.

Remind your child the sounds each letter makes, and make it a fun game to repeat the sounds together when you’re out in the world or in your living room.

3. Should I start with uppercase or lowercase letters for phonics?

The Phonics Dad cards show both cases at the same time so kids learn that the letters are represented in multiple ways.

Once they start blending, we use one case at a time.

4. When do I move onto blending?

Blending comes after the letter section is finished and your child knows the sounds fairly well.

Start with MATSINO and then move to MATSINO Blending before moving onto the next sections.

Following the Phonics Dad order to reduce frustration and increase the likelihood of early success.

5. What should I do if my child struggles with phonics?

Learning to read builds new pathways in the brain – it’s hard cognitive work!

If your child is having trouble learning their sounds:

  1. Focus on a few letters at a time.
  2. Don’t move onto blending until they’re automatic with MATSINO.
